  • Description:Planetary research has experienced great development during the last two decades revealing an ubiquous and surprisingly rich planet population. Explaining the observed planetary diversity requires a deep knowledge of a significant sample of planets from we can extract precise physical, chemical and dynamical information.EChO (“Exoplanet Characterisation Observatory”) is a medium-class ESA mission proposal for the Cosmic Vision 2015-2015 program competing for an anticipated launch in the 2022-2024 time frame. EChO will obtain spectra covering the wavelength range 0.6-11 micron of the atmospheres of exoplanets orbiting solar neighborhood stars via the transit and occultation techniques. EChO will deliver an homogeneous and consistent catalog of planetary spectra from the giant gas planets, Neptune-like through super-Earths, both hot and warm atmospheres, and planets orbiting stars of varying spectral types. This approach will allow researchers to perform comparative planetology leading to a best understanding of both exoplanetary systems and our own solar system.Spain is part of the international consortium (led by the UK) participating in the definition and design of the mission (science, payload, and ground segment). ICE, INTA, IAA, IAC, and CAB (INTA-CSIC) with the support of the Spanish “Red de Infraestructura en Astronomía (RIA)” are organizing a workshop entitled “EChO Spain” for September 16, 2013. The main objectives are the following:
    • Congregate all Spanish community interested in planetary atmospheres studies (solar system and extrasolar).
    • Offer the right forum for the discussion of various tools and interests of our community, possible applications for EChO and synergies among groups.

    Format

Oral presentations by EChO members and groups interested in the science of EChO. Time for open discussion on EChO science and groups interests.

There is no registration fee. Participants must register at the link below.
