ESO announces an special call for letters of intent for public surveys with KMOS, a multi-object instrument with up to 24 IFUs (arms) in NIR (0.8-2.5 mum) which can cover a field-of-view of 7.2 arcmin diameter (2.8” x 2.8″ per arm) with a spectral resolving power 4000.

The goal of this special call is to offer KMOS to address a major scientific question of broad interest that need substantial observing time. These public surveys can request up to 200 observing nights to be allocated over 3 years.

The deadline to receive the letters of intent for this special call is October 15th. A special panel created for this purpose will review the letters of intent and propose recommendations. The deadline to submit the proposals of the selected projects is February 15th, 2025, and observations will start in October 2025.
