The Solar European Telescope (EST) was presented at the Residencia de Estudiantes del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) on May 3, 2022. EST is an ambitious project for a 4,2m in diameter solar telescope to be raised on the Observatorio de El Roque de los Muchachos on the island of La Palma (Spain). EST is one of the main objectives of the European Association for Solar Telescopes (EAST). The project is led by Spain by means of two partners, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), acting as coordinator, and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC).
The IAC and IAA-CSIC principal investigators, Manuel Collados and Luis Bellot, respectively, presented the main characteristics of this new-generation solar telescope and the main tasks that their institutions are undertaken. At the presentation it was also exhibited a summary of the documentary “Reaching for the Sun”, produced by IAA-CSIC and directed and coordinated by Emilio García, responsible of the Science Communication Office of the IAA-CSIC.
