Esta combinaci\u00f3n de instrumentos y la \u00f3rbita de la misi\u00f3n la hacen \u00fanica tanto para el estudio de la heliosfera y los fen\u00f3menos que tienen lugar en ella, como del origen de los mismos en la fotosfera y cromosfera solares. La comunidad cient\u00edfica espa\u00f1ola se encuentra directamente implicada de forma destacada en el desarrollo de esta misi\u00f3n: participa y lidera el desarrollo de dos de sus instrumentos, el detector EPD (<i>Energetic Particle Detector<\/i>) y el magnet\u00f3grafo SO\/PHI (<i>Polarimetric and Helioseismic Imager for Solar Orbiter<\/i>). El lanzamiento de la misi\u00f3n est\u00e1 previsto para 2018 y empezar\u00e1 a enviar datos tres a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde, tras alcanzar la \u00f3rbita adecuada. La duraci\u00f3n nominal de la misi\u00f3n es de tres a\u00f1os (hasta 2024), con tres a\u00f1os adicionales de fase extendida (hasta 2027).<\/p>\n<p>EST es en la actualidad el proyecto europeo de tierra m\u00e1s ambicioso. EST es un telescopio de 4 metros de di\u00e1metro especialmente dise\u00f1ado para medir con alta precisi\u00f3n el campo magn\u00e9tico solar tanto en la fotosfera como en la cromosfera, con una resoluci\u00f3n espacial sobre la superficie del sol de alrededor de 30 km. Desde el principio, Espa\u00f1a ha tenido un papel muy relevante en esta iniciativa, presidiendo el consorcio desde su creaci\u00f3n hasta finales de 2012, y en el desarrollo de EST (coordinando los proyectos europeos EST, SOLARNET y el recientemente aprobado GREST). Seg\u00fan la planificaci\u00f3n actual, la construcci\u00f3n de EST empezar\u00e1 hacia 2020 y comenzar\u00e1 a generar datos hacia 2026, con los instrumentos inicialmente en fase de verificaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n<p>Independientemente del claro inter\u00e9s cient\u00edfico individual de ambas infraestructuras, el hecho de que puedan operar simult\u00e1neamente durante unos dos a\u00f1os hace especialmente atractivo estimular entre la comunidad nacional la discusi\u00f3n de su uso conjunto para optimizar su rendimiento cient\u00edfico. Especialmente atractivas son cuestiones tales como: la estereoscop\u00eda del campo magn\u00e9tico fotosf\u00e9rico (posible gracias a las medidas simult\u00e1neas desde el espacio y desde tierra con diferentes perspectivas), su relaci\u00f3n con el campo magn\u00e9tico cromosf\u00e9rico (gracias a las medidas de tierra), las propiedades de las fulguraciones y de la activaci\u00f3n de filamentos y protuberancias (medidas desde tierra) y su relaci\u00f3n con las part\u00edculas energ\u00e9ticas detectadas, las fluctuaciones en el campo magn\u00e9tico heliosf\u00e9rico (desde el espacio) y las perturbaciones medidas en el entorno terrestre.
